An open letter to the forgotten

And he said, "Jesus, remember me when you come into your Kingdom."
And Jesus replied, "I assure you, today you will be with me in paradise." - Luke 23: 42-43

Then Samson prayed to the LORD, "Sovereign LORD, remember me again. O God, please strengthen me just one more time. With one blow let me pay back the Philistines for the loss of my two eyes." Judges 16:28

But God remembered Noah and all the wild animals and livestock with him in the boat. He sent a wind to blow across the earth, and the floodwaters began to recede. Genesis 8:1

These verses are examples of when God remembers the forgotten
I'm not insinuating that God forgets .. after all, the bible speaks on His lack of forgetfulness. It is compared with that of a breastfeeding mother in Isaiah 49:15

"Can a woman forget her nursing child? Will she have no compassion on the child from her womb? Although mothers may forget, I will not forget you."

As reassuring as these words may be, I've often gone through days/weeks were I felt in some sense, forgotten by God. These are the days were we feel alone or that God is acting dormant. Similarly Noah, his family and the animals were left on the that ark for months, Samson was forgotten in the prison of the philistines (his "haters"). Lastly the thief at the side of Jesus, who appeared to know and fear God (based on his comments to the other thief) but yet must have felt forsaken all his life, leading to his deviant behaviour and crucifixion. Feeling Forsaken isn't new, Its pretty normal actually. Even Jesus felt forsaken by the father at some point in Matthew 27: 46

"At about three o'clock, Jesus called out with a loud voice, "Eli, Eli, lema sabachthani?" which means "My God, my God, why have you abandoned me?"

The letter that follows is an open letter to the "forgotten". I hope that you find the strength to read this in your moments of despair and keep these words in a special place (preferably bookmarked or rewritten in a journal)

To the one whom the lord remembers,

It is with great pleasure that I bring you this news. Fear not, I repeat fear not !!!! The lord our God has not forgotten you, neither has He given you up to be destroyed. He has loved you with an everlasting love. Ears have not heard, eyes have not seen what He has planned for YOU, His beloved. Be aware that He is never late but always on time. He has a strategy, don't worry it'll all make sense in time.

I know you feel like you've been left to sort things out on your own, like He has replaced you and moved on, like He has left you in your time of need but I repeat ...fear not, do not be afraid. Have you forgotten how He showed up for you in the past, How He came through just when you were about to hit rock bottom. Do you remember how He formed you and knew you even in your mothers womb. Do you remember when His gave His son (Jesus) up for death so that you could live.  Do you remember whose loving kindness causes you to wake up each morning. Maybe you've forgotten whose mercy causes you to stand with boldness before His throne.

To the one whom the lord remembers....
-Get Up
-Smile
-Keep going
Don't give up ....the battle is not over yet... but you've been declared the victor

Just like the thief He will open the gates of paradise on your behalf. Just like Noah, He will cause the waters that surround and enslave you to dry up. Just like Samson, He will restore your strength and enable you to overcome those that mock you. He himself has said "I will never leave you nor forsake you". Lastly remember that the term never means NEVER

So let your hope be restored. For He that keeps you, watches over you and never sleeps nor slumbers.

Yours Faithfully, Selah.

"We are hunted down, but never abandoned by God. We get knocked down, but we are not destroyed" - 2 Corinthians 4:9 (NLT)
